How this Scam works?

The Nycitypay.com Scam works in multiple steps that we have covered here:

Step 1: Receiving a Scam Message

They will reach out to you by text message. The phone numbers must be taken from a data breach. The text should contain an unpaid parking invoice and due amount of minimal charges like $2, with a message if payment is not made promptly, there is a risk of incurring extra charges like $25.

Then after all this, you would be redirected to a fake website that looks exactly like the official one.

Step 2: The Website Request Personal Information

Then comes the second step where scammers take you to their website that looks exactly like the official one. The website will ask you for personal information, such as:

  1. Full name
  2. Date of birth
  3. Email address
  4. Phone number
  5. Home address
  6. Driver’s license number

Step 3: Scammers Request CC Details

After putting your personal information on the site, you would be redirected to a page seeking Credit Card details like CC number, Expiration date and CVV code.

Step 4: Scammers Steal Your Money

Once you enter the credit card information, the scammers have all your info. They can now use your personal details to commit identity theft or sell your data on the dark web.

This will clear your parking invoice, but you may receive various unknown transactions on your credit card.
